Adkins Slams Inflation Reduction Act

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – Amanda Adkins, Republican candidate for Congress in Kansas’ 3rd District, slammed Sharice Davids for voting in favor of H.R. 5376, the so-called Inflation Reduction Act.

“Unfortunately, this bill doesn’t live up to its name or bring financial relief to Kansas families and businesses who are suffering,” Adkins said. “The Inflation Reduction Act does absolutely nothing to reduce inflation.”

The most disappointing part of this bill are the healthcare provisions that fail to address the urgent needs created by skyrocketing prescription drug prices at a time when health insurance inflation has already increased by 20.6%. Adkins supports allowing Medicare to negotiate drug prices, but the negotiating power given to the Secretary of Health and Human Services by the legislation does not begin until 2026 and is limited to just 10 drugs. By 2029, it will extend to 20 drugs.

“We can’t wait until the end of the decade to tackle the cost of prescription drugs,” said Adkins.

And for drug manufacturers who do not accept the federal price controls? They would be forced to pay a 95% excise tax.

“This bill adds almost 800 pages of new regulations that will make it harder for Kansas businesses to innovate and more complicated for families to access the affordable healthcare they need,” said Adkins. “We need bipartisan solutions to our biggest problems, not costly legislation passed on a strictly partisan vote.”

It’s no surprise Davids followed the lead of Nancy Pelosi and Joe Biden with her vote. Davids has voted with Joe Biden 100% of the time and today’s bill marks the 76th consecutive vote she has taken with Biden instead of with KS-03. According to a recent independent poll, 58% of voters in KS-03 disapprove of Joe Biden.
